I had tried several kinds of spice simulator like LTSpice, Simetrix, TINA-TI, Pspice.
I personally think LTSpice is the most convenient one for an engineer to start his design and some initial evaluations.
(Since there is no official LTSpice forum I had ever seen.)
But the most significant drawback of LT's products is the incompatibility with other vendors. That means there are risks to maintain the works which is already in mass production.Because there is not any guarantee could be offered by any manufacturer, to guarantee that there is no EOL (end of life) of their own product line.
That will make engineer to consider this question again if he (or she) wants to place a LT's product in their design. That means much more effort must be considered in the further maintain.
But I still try to place more LT's product in some easy-to-contain places. Since LT spend lots resource to maintain the simulation domain (every product with it's own model and example) which also helps me to understand many details from been a rookie to an elder member in this business.
Just some thoughts.
Have good health.
