I'd like to look at the load transient response of the TPS78233 for a design prior to doing my first build. The results I was seeing in Webbench were a little too good to believe so I did a quick spot check against the condition shown in the datasheet.
Datasheet conditions:
Vin = 5.5V, Vout=3.3V, Iout 0mA=>10mA for 10mS, Cout = 10uF
The above conditions in Webbench show an output droop of only ~1mV whereas the datasheet shows around 100mV.
Is there something I'm doing wrong? Are the results of the load transient sims in Webbench not accurate?
Robert,
The PSpice model that is used in WEBENCH® for LDO's is very simplistic and does not do a good job for load/line transient simulations. You are correct that the model will look "too good". The datasheet has a better representation of the expected transient behavior.
It is a limitation of the PSpice model being used.
