TPS562210 vs TPS54229 efficiency compare on Webench

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS54229, TPS562210, TPS562201

Hi Sir,

I had run a simulation on Webnech with TPS562201 and TPS54229, I thought that the TPS562210 should have a better efficiency since it have lower Rds on and the schematic is the same.

But the result is not as I thought.

May I have your help to teach me what might cuase this different result?

Below is the Webench report.

TPS54229 12V to 1.8V@0.5A.pdf

TPS562210 12V to 1.8V@0.5A.pdf

Thanks,

Patrick

  • I checked some data and yes the TPS562210 does have slightly higher efficiency than TPS54229. They are very close though. Let me move this to the Webench forum so that team can comment on the difference.
  • Hello Patrick,

Thanks for using WEBENCH tools. We did the comparison beween TPS562210 and TPS54229 for measured data available for Vin=12V, Vout={1.05V, 5V}. Unfortunately, we did not have measured data for your test conditions (Vout=1.8V).

As you can see, the comparison plots are in log and linear scale and the MD prefix stands for measured data.

Your observation about Rds(on) is correct and TPS562210 has better efficiency at higher current; however, for Iout=0.5A, both devices are operating in PFM/DCM region and the conduction losses are no longer dominant , instead the switching losses play a more important role.

Regarding TPS562201 device, can you clarify your question?

    Regards,
