TLV316 SPICE MODEL PROBLEM

Hi WH,

We don't have access to the ADS simulator and our testing was performed with other PSpice based simulators. I am checking with our Webench models group to see if they know anything about ADS and if they can offer any suggestions.

I am a modeling engineer in the WEBENCH Signal Chain Modeling team.

ADS can usually  import and translate models that use Pspice and Hspice syntax.

Unfortunately there are handful of Pspice functions that ADS doesn't readily translate.
In this case ADS doesn't recognize one the internal functions used in the model, and this is the cause of the error.

I will look at the details of the model and try to fix the problem. Hopefully a working model can be delivered early next week.

When you import a Pspice model into ADS, it converts the Pspice netlist syntax into AEL, the ADS netlist syntax.

ADS can convert most of the Pspice syntax correctlly, but it struggles with like voltage-controlled switches,  IF/THEN statements and a handful of other functions.

So those have to be converted manually from Pspice syntax to AEL after the automated part of the import is complete.

Most of the TLV316 model looks good, but this model does use switches and some other functions that will have to be converted manually.

I will shoot for delivering the model late next week.

If I run into delays I will let you know.

Hi John,

Just emailed the customer and found there is another model that they need to have updated as well.  The model is for the OPA322.  They urgently need these modules and late next week is very late for them.   The EAU for this project is in the multiple 100Ks so it is worth winning.   If you would like more details on this you can contact me at jwiemeyer@arrow.com.  I can provide all of the details over email.

The ADS2015 workspace with the TLV316 model is attached to this thread.
Please let the customer know this model was a translation of a model that was optimized for a different simulator.
This translated model may not behave the same in ADS as the original model did in its original simulator.

It is not possible to know the differences without a long, lengthy study and comparison of the results. I mentioned the possible difference of behavior in case the customer has used the model in a different simulator and starts comparing those results with ADS.
As I mentioned, the model was designed the product line and optimized for use in another simulator. If the ADS version of the model turns out to be not very robust, we really can't re-optimize the model to work in ADS.
