Changing quantity of output capacitors in Webench

How do I change the quantity of output capacitors in Webench? What if I more than one type of output capacitors?

  • Dirk,

There are a few ways to change the output capacitor(s) on your WEBENCH® design. The first would be to select the output capacitor in the BOM or in the schematic and click on the Select Alternate component button. You can then choose from a variety of different capacitors (including several in parallel) to get the output capacitance that you desire. The circuit will be re-calculated (automatically) based on the change in the output capacitance if any changes are required.

For some IC's, the mixed capacitor feature is also enabled. You can choose this (if enabled) on the left hand side of the design under the Advanced Options box. There will be a drop down menu for Mixed or Not Mixed. Mixed allows Electrolytic and Ceramic capacitors to be used. The devices will be chosen for you, however, you can update them after the schematic is changed.

Finally, you can always use the schematic editor to add as many and as different capacitors as you like to the schematic. Please remember that when using the schematic editor, you will lose the connection to the Circuit Calculator and will only be able to run SPICE simulations on that design. You can always return to the WEBENCH created design through your My Designs link.
