How to calculate the value of inductor in the BUCK——BOOST circuit.

the circuit as follow.

the input is 10V to 30V and my intendtion is that its output is 18V，the I(out） max is 1A.the PWM controlling can be done by hand. Now I have a questions,how to calculate the value of the INDUCTOR and the capacitor. IF i reduce the value down to 1mH,it dose’t work。Besides this，i want to know why its output is limited，no matter the max  and the min，both are not the theoretical value。Who can give me the calculation equations and explanations。

    I would recommend a Google search on Buck-Boost topologies. There are several excellent references you can use.

    A couple of observations on your circuit would be that this is an inverting circuit, so your output will be negative and the 1Kohm load resistor will not allow you to get 1A output.
