latest SPICE model of OPA657

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OPA657, TINA-TI

Hello-

After updating the 'OPA657.lib' SPICE file today (but not the symbol), I got an error about not all pins of a subcircuit being present.  So, I took a peek into the 'OPA657.lib' file with an editor (vim), and saw that the newest file has introduced and extra pin labeled 'PD'.  My guess is it is "Power Down."  Trouble is, the datasheet for the physical OPA657 list no such pin in any package!!!!  (You can verify it yourself: Download the zipped software bundle for the OPA657, extract 'OPA657.lib', and with the editor of your choice search for the string "OPA657" without the quotes until you reach the subcircuit definition.)

I am using the new 64-bit LTSpice ⅩⅦ, the Windows version, which I am running in Linux via the wine Unix-to-Windows interface layer. (I guess now that ADI is buying Linear Tech, you should not be adverse to LTSpice!

My LTSpiceⅩⅦ had no problem running with the old symbol and old 'OPA657.lib' file (LTSpiceⅩⅦ is backwards compatible with LTSpiceⅣ); it just that some overload (non)recovery of the OPA657 was weird.   I have double-checked my work before deciding to bother you, so I am reasonably certain there is something wrong with the 'OPA657.lib' file.  Can you help?

Thanks and Best Regards,

  • Tim,

Thank you for your interest in TI products and the feedback on the OPA657 model.

Have you tried using the model in TINA-TI, a free simulator that can be downloaded from ti.com?
It is available for download from:

A dedicated TINA macro and a TINA reference circuit featuring the most recent OPA657 model are available on that device's product page on ti.com:

We design our models for use in TINA and Pspice. If problems arise we will revise our models to work in either of these platforms.
The real device is indeed missing a power-down pin, so that feature should be removed from the TINA & Pspice models.
One possible short-term work-around would be to run your sims in TINA with the model in a power-up state.

As I said, we will update this model for use in our target simulators. When those updated models are available we will reply to his thread as a heads-up.

Just so you know, we can't offer support for our models' use in LTspice because its EULA forbids help from that vendor's competitors.

    Regards,
    John

  • Tim,
The updated model is now available in the product folder.
