Hi Team,

 

Customer are planning to use TPS2491 for their new project, but there is some limitation in this IC. Customer cannot set the output limit current up to 15A using the Webench Designer. The limitation is due to Webench Designer or the IC itself cannot handle such amount of current?

 

Customer requirement is as follows:

Vin = 47V-49V

Iout = 15A

 

Besides, we propose an alternative part which is LM5069 and they are able to run the Webench Designer per above requirement without any issue.

Kindly advise if TPS2491 can take 15A current limit or not.

    I believe that this question was answered by the product line. Please let us know if there are any further issues.

    What we recommend is to use our calculator design tool. Our customers find this tool extremely useful, and it would greatly speed up the back-forth communication of questions we would have for information needed for the review (such as total output cap including anything connected downstream from the output node, which may not be shown on a partial schematic). There’s a tool for the TPS2491 and the LM5069.

    One more note, both devices (TPS249x and LM5069) can handle the Voltage and current specs listed below. The thing to worry about is the FET chosen. One of the major key specs when choosing a FET for a hotswap application is the SOA curve. Our calculator tool has a built in SOA curve calculation and shows how much SOA design margin one has.
