TINA/Spice: Create new device and use for simulation

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TINA-TI

Tool/software: TINA-TI or Spice Models

I have a spice file (.CIR) for a new component that I want to simulate. I created a new symbol using symbol editor and saved it in DEVICES.DDB and TEXAS.DDB. Then I use new macro wizard in schematic editor to link the spice model file with the symbol I created but it does not shows the symbol in the device database library? I've re-read symbol database, re-compiled and re-build library. How to use the symbol I create?

  • Sandeep,

Please make sure that when you update the TEXAS.DDB file that you are doing so as an administrator on your PC. The .DDB files when edited do not give you any indication of whether or not the file is being saved or if the permissions are incorrect. I have had this problem previously where the symbol was saved but not available for use because the permissions did not allow it. If you can open the TEXAS.DDB file and see your new symbol (as an admin), re-save the .DDB file and this should allow you access.

The other option is to simply create the new macro (with a default symbol) and update it with the symbol you have created. If you run SHAPED.EXE and find your created symbol from the .DDB file, you can select all of it (ctrl-a, ctrl-c) and paste it into your newly created symbol (ctrl-v) in the other editor window. Remember to save the updated macro or you will lose the changes in the .TSM file.

  • Thanks for your answer.
sorry for late reply! I am updating .ddb files as administrator but I am using windows 10, so there is a hidden administrator. when I enabled this administrator in that .ddb files didn't have my newly created symbol. I think may be this is the issue?
I tried other option. I created new macro with default symbol and right click it to 'edit symbol'. Separately I opened symbol editor and copied the symbol I created from Texas.ddb and paste it over edit symbol window by first deleting the default symbol. The symbol is updated in the schematic editor. How to save this updated macro as .TSM file ?
