WEBENCH® Tools/LMZ31503: Problem while importing device to Eagle

Hi Guys,

I am trying to use LMZ31503 in a design from 12V-5V at 3A in EAGLE 7.7.0. I downloaded the webench design(including library files) and when i tried to execute the script and follow instructions as provided in this post (e2e.ti.com/.../355494), i received errors such as

"Can't place pin PVIN_3 on pin PVIN_2!; Can't place pin PVIN on pin PVIN_2!; Can't place pin INH_UVLO on pin INH_UVLO_2!; Can't place pin VOUT_3 on pin VOUT_2!; Can't place pin VOUT_4 on pin VOUT_2!; Can't place pin PH_3 on pin PH_2; Can't place pin AGND_3 on pin AGND_2; Can't place pin PGND_3 on pin PGND_2!; "

Because of the above errors, I am not able to tie all the VOUT pins together, or PH pins, or AGND pins, or PGND pins, etc. which is obviously a problem.

Can you please let me know what has to be done here or where am I going wrong?

Hi Rinald,
I was able to export the schematic and board files for the LMZ31503 and view them in Eagle. The schematic symbol that is being exported is a representative symbolic symbol. For an actual physical IC symbol, you can try creating one in Eagle, representing the actual IC pins and then wire them up.
You had mentioned that you are referring to an e2e post but the link that you have attached is broken. If you can send us the post that you are refrering to, I can verify that for you to ensure that the correct steps are being followed.

Thanks for your reply. I believe there is some confusion.

I am also able to view it in Eagle. I face the above issues when I try importing the library into Eagle(saving it as "AcceleratedDesigns_lib.lbr") to link the footprint. I require this for my PCB design. I think you would also face the same issues when you execute the script to open the saved library.

Rinald,

We are unable to reproduce the issue that you report. We tried the same Eagle version 7.7 and nothing wrong so far. Do you face the same export issues for any other WEBENCH model or for only LMZ31503? Can you please provide the test conditions that you are using?

Hi Flora,
There is no problem with the export from Webench to Eagle. This works fine for both the schematic and board layout. After I export the schematic, the problem I face is when i try integrating the Eagle library for Schematic and convert it to board netlist.

When executing the script of the library file ( .scr file) i get the above mentioned errors which prevents me from tying all the required pins together. To clarify, If you look at the e2e post i referred to earlier in my reply, there is a PDF file provided by Howard Chen (1263.Steps to integrating the Eagle library for Schematic and convert it to board netlist.pdf) - I face a problem in step 2.

Hi Rinald,

The symbol for this device LMZ31503 does not have all the pins displayed as the footprint. This might be causing an issue when you tie the symbol to the footprint using the library script.

You could download the .BXL for this component from the product folder and then export it to eagle using the Ultralibrarian free reader (https://webench.ti.com/cad/) and use it – this is a quick alternative while we figure out an automatic solution to the library import for such components.

Alternatively, you can create the symbol in Eagle with all the pins and tie the imported footprint together.
