PMP40025: Suitability for supplying Switched Reluctance motor application

I have selected and working on the reference design PMP40025( AC/DC flyback converter 230V AC to 48V DC, 48 W) for supplying Switched reluctance motor based application. But in TI website the applications are given as Set Top Boxes, Audio Video streaming, Home theater. Please refer link belo

The motor's maximum power intake is 40W. Load and speed varying. Max speed is 500 rpm. Max current would be 0.85A.

Advise about the suitability to motor.

Hi Vaishnavi,

There is no reason this power supply will not work for applications besides set-top box, A/V and home theater. Please ensure that it meets your input voltage range and transient response requirements.

Hi Ryan,
Voltage range required is 48V.
Regarding Transient response, Should I check whether the SMPS can supply initial current (for torque) for switched reluctance motor, or any other parameters.
kindly advise.

Hi Vaishnavi,

Yes, you will need to check the motor's current demand. PMP40025 is not designed to provide more than 1A of ouput current.
