WEBENCH® Tools: Webench

Tool/software: WEBENCH® Design Tools

Hi,

I am having difficulty in constructing a power tree for one of my project using Webench [pwer architect tool.

In the design, I have a primary voltage source of 5.4V DC. I am using a switcher, say PS1 to down-convert this to 3.3V/1.2A. Further, I need to add an LDO, say PS2 to derive 2.5V/0.15A from the 3.3V of PS1 supply.

But when I select option 'ADD LOAD', the LDO(PS2) gets added to the primary voltage source instead of the switcher(PS1) which is not intended. My requirement has multiple levels of voltage derivation from more than 1 switcher/LDO. Does webench has this feature?

Thanks

  • The WEBENCH Power Architect gives you the ability to edit and fine-tune the power tree. I entered your input/output specs in the tool today and it offered me two possible solutions. First  solution was already configured the way you want it to while the second one had the LDO with input attached to the main supply, which is the problem you are reporting. You could, obviously, select first solution and you would be set, but let us talk about the second solution and see how we can fine-tune it. Select the second option and it will take you the next screen showing you the tree structure. Here click on the LDO you want to move and click on edit button. This will open up a window with a drop-down titled "Move this supply". Click on the drop down and move the LDO to the power-supply of your choice. This will change the power tree structure to your what you want.
