TINA/Spice/TPS50601-SP: Example Pspice Model Test Benches and Simplis Models

Part Number: TPS50601-SP
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TINA-TI

Tool/software: TINA-TI or Spice Models

Hi,

It appears that when you download the PSPICE model of the TPS50601, the "out-of-the-box" test bench example of the model does not allow you to run the model. It is locked or something and thus read only. I cannot run the model or make any changes to the circuit and save.

For the transient model at least, I could include that library and recreate the test bench in-order to try out the model. Can you look into this for your pspice models?

Second, I have seen some simplis models have both characteristics of the switching element and AC response. Can you create similar simplis models that support both analyses?

Thanks,

Michael

  • Hi Michael,

I confirmed the PSpice Transient Model and it ran without any issues for me in PSpice 16.2. Not sure what the exact issue is that you are facing.

On SIMPLIS v/s PSpice, for Bode plots, the switching circuit needs to be linearized first before the AC analysis can be run on it. Since SIMPLIS is a piece wise linear simulator, you can run Bode plots on the switching model directly. The same is not  true for spice based simulations. Hence an average model needs to be created which can also be found in this devices product folder:

  • Thanks Nikhil for the response,

I think the Pspice model problem comes from the downloading from the web and some kind of permissions. I just downloaded the zip file and unzipped the folder. Then opened the project and sch. I believe it instantly wants to update the path to my current folder and etc in the DSN. I think this is the problem as it reports the DSN is read only.

I think you should try the example model from downloading via the web. I wonder if it is a problem with the encryption process of the model or project.

Either way the work around is if I just create a new project and schematic. Then include the library and place the IC in my design. I am just trying to help you and others out as I wasted time messing with the example project.

Thanks for your explanation on Simplis models.

  • Nikhil,

Also, do you know if there is a way to download more than 200 models from the TI main library. I wanted to download them all or all the power parts at once just to have them in future but, there is a limit at 200.

Referring to the link in your signature.

    Mike
  • Hi Mike,
I actually download the model from the product folder directly in the previous run that I showed to you. So not sure what the issue is there.
Regarding your other question, yes you can get the full list of models from here: www.ti.com/.../midlevel.tsp
