WEBENCH® Transformer Designer

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DAC7760, LM2588

Although I have read Webench help I don't know how to design transformers.

In this step:

How is the transformer added as this example?

  • Hi Jingtai,

    Can you share with me your design conditions, Input Source - AC or DC,  Vinmin, Vinmax, Vout1, Iout1, Vout2, Iout2, etc? How many isolated outputs you have and what are its specs.

    Based on that I can see if the schematic and transformer is available for that design

    Thanks,

    sahil

  • DAC7760 requires a +/-15V power supply. For the test isolations are not required and the input is 24V DC power supply. LDO is necessary based on the reference design.

    According to its data sheet
    Power Supply Recommendations
    The DACx760 family can operate within the specified single-supply range of 10 V to 36 V applied to the AVDD
    pin or the specified dual-supply range of 10 V to 18 V applied to AVDD and 0 V to –18 V on AVSS or any
    subsequent combination that does not exceed the maximum difference of 36 V between AVDD and AVSS.
    TI recommends including bulk and local decoupling capacitors.

  • Hi Jingtai,

    I tried creating WEBENCH design for your specs -
    Vin = 24 V
    Vout1 = 15 V
    Iout1 = 0.5 A
    Vout2 = -15 V
    Iout2 = 0.5 A

    Input Source - DC

    I am not able to find a solution for this with transformer.

    Mostly for now , we have single output transformer designs enabled in WEBENCH. And the transformer which shows up in that design condition will contain details on core part number, bobbin part number, wire AWG, turns, layers, strands, etc
    I am sharing one design example with you for your reference, regarding how it looks like -

    https://webench.ti.com/webench5/power/webench5.cgi?origin=ti_search&VinMin=85.0&VinMax=265.0&O1V=12.0&O1I=2.0&base_pn=UCC28C42&op_TA=30&source=AC&line_fsw=60&AppType=AC&isolated=Y&optfactor=3&Topology=Flyback&Flavor=none

    Also, we do not have a standalone transformer design tool in WEBENCH , the transformer design comes along with the PWM controller/flyback, as you will find in the above design link

    However, you can reach out to my through email sahilg@ti.com, if you want to have an idea of how transformer selection is done in WEBENCH

    Thanks
    sahil

  • Thanks for your support.

    The link is shown

    Is the transformer solution absolutely necessary? How is the solution without transformers performed?

  • Hi Jingtai,

    Can you try the design link again, I just verified it, it is working fine on my machine.

    Also can you try using some other browser, not sure how this will impact though.

    I do not have idea of the above DAC whether transformer solution will be required or not.
    However,if we dont want to use a transformer, we can go with two DC-DC converters solution as well.

    Can you share your email ID so that I can send you one design using LM2588 in flyback configuration.

    Feel free to let me know of any other question

    Thanks
    sahil
