WEBENCH® Tools/LMZ23603: LMZ23603

Part Number: LMZ23603

Tool/software: WEBENCH® Design Tools

I have the following power requirements.

Vin (minimum) = 9V

Vin (maximum) = 30V

Vout = 5V

Iout (maximum) = 2A

Operating temperature (maximum) = 30C.

I selected the LMZ23603 based on what I had in stock at work.

The data sheet of the LMZ23603 showed in Figure-3 the efficiency of the device at 5V output at various output current levels with input voltage ranging from 9V to 36V.

The selection seemed fine but I wanted to simulate with WebBench just to confirm the design. For my operating conditions listed above the WebBench reported that the design is not stable as it had a phase margin that is smaller than 35 or greater than 120.

  1. First, is there something wrong in my interpretation of the data sheet and the WenBench report.
  2. If not can I assume from the above that the data sheet efficiency curves were obtained for designs that might be unstable and therefore I cannot rely on such data?
  3. Or am I using the WebBench incorrectly.

Thanks for the replies in advance.

Cheers
