TINA/Spice: Another TINA bug - symbol name can not be updated after edit

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TINA-TI

Tool/software: TINA-TI or Spice Models

There's another big in TINA

Since TI did not implement logical elements, but provide some dummies with TINA demonstration projects, I just copied a symbol from AND dummy for.. lets say a 3state buffer dummy; it does not matter.

I edited the macro, edited the symbol, renaming everything to "BUF3N".

But in the schematics the symbol name stays "AND2" as before the edit.

And I can not create a new symbol, because there is another bug, damaging the pin "invisible connection point's" coordinates, when the pin is touched, or a new pin is created.

  • Andrey,

What you modified was not the name of the component. It is actually the name of the drawing (shape). To change the name of the component, please select U6, and menu "Tools" > "Edit Macro Properties". You will see a form in which the field next to "Shape" contains the new (shape) name "BUF3N", above that you'll see the "Name" still says "AND2". Please update that field and OK the form, then deselect U6. Now you should see the new part name on the schematic. If you export this macro and insert it into another schematic, you will see the new component name.

    Thanks,
    JC

  •  Weeeell, that worked... but I guess, you understand yourself... the interface, it is not user friendly at least...

before designing such a thing, someone should try putting a block diagram on the board and combine functions in restricted scopes, without making multilayer 3D interconnections... how come RMB access macro text and symbol property, but not the macro property; neither it is available in macro editor. While symbol properties are accessible from symbol editor. There is a systematic inconsistency.

  • Andrey,

Thanks for the feedback. We will add this to enhancement list for future updates of the tool.
