TIDA-00951: Reg. Cold start mechanism

Sir,

I have a few queries reg. the cold-start mechanism circuit used in the design.

1) Has the name "Cold start" got to do something with low temperature operation?

2) There is a temperature sensor IC U10 - TMP300BIDBVT used. Can we omit it for our circuit? Has it got any actual importance in the control of the converter?

Hi Swathika,

Cold start has got nothing to do with temperature. What it means, is a condition when the 400V DC Bus is completely discharged and the converter is turned on. This can lead to high irnush current from the battery. In order to avoid this the startup clamp circuit is used under conditions when the 400V DC Bus is completely discharged.

In normal operating conditions, this condition occrus very rarelly, as in most use cases the 400V DC Bus is alread charged to >250V DC.

Hi Swathika,

Temperature sensor is for OTP protection. But you can chose to implement it in a different fashion in your design.
