Super Cap Solution for backup Power

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PMP9766

Hi Ti Support

I need to design supercap back up feature in my design, please advise for any reference circuit , IC or possible solution.

1. backup needed for 22Sec

2. System Power consumption around 5W.

3. Industrial temperature range -40C to 85C

4. Feature Charging control , protection etc.

Thanks

  • Hello Kunal, thank you for posting to the forum.

5 Watts for 22 seconds is 108 Joules. That is a lot of energy.

The concept for super cap backup usually uses both buck and boost modes of power conversion.

PMP9766 is a good example of this process.

Here is another example, called "Last Gasp"

Details of the design would depend on:

    Vin to the system.

Vout, Iout, Pout required to the load.

And operating temperature affects the SCaps, their capacity can be reduced by a factor of 3 at cold temperatures.
