TIDA-00951: Regarding the startup circuit

Part Number: TIDA-00951

Hi sir,

Regarding the startup circuit:

In the startup circuit is it compulsory to have another small boost converter to build the dc bus initially. because in most of the papers that i have seen the secondary
of the coupled indcutor is driectly connected to the dc bus through the diode.

Thanks,

Eswar.

  • Hi Eswar,

The small boost converter is put to make sure that at highest battery voltage, during startup the voltage on the mosfets does not exceed 100V and at the same time, the "clamp" circuit remains inactive during normal operation.

If we connect the coupled clamp winding directlly to the secondary, under extreme cases the voltage spike on the mosfet can exceed 100V at startup.

    Best Regards,
    Ram
