TIDA-00440: Insulation Resistance Monitoring System

Hello, I am looking for some Insulation resistance monitoring/ leakage current measurement system in EVs/HEVs. I have found this TI TIDA-00440 reference design, which has similar application in transformers, motor drives but not for Automotive (EVs/HEVs). so can this same reference design work in automotive? or there is any better automotive grade system for the same purpose. if yes, please share.

    Hello Vivek,

                             Thank you for looking into our TI designs. Insulation monitoring / leakage current measurement are stipulated by the relevant standards. TIDA-00440 is based on IEEE 43-2000. You may need to find the relevant standard for Automotive. The concept used in TIDA-00440 may work - but would recommend you to check for the limits and test levels specified in the automotive standard. Do let us know if there are any queries related to TIDA-00440.

    Eventually I found this another TI reference design TIDA -01513 which is  Automotive High-Voltage and Isolation Leakage Measurements Reference Design. This is sufficing the requirement but in its design guide there are some errors specially in test result section  which you can find in the attachment. For different cases the result is same("delta values is same in all the plots") probably some human mistake. Please if I can get some more depth and correct data about TIDA-01513, it will be really helpful.

    Thanks a lot for letting us know about the entries for Delta Voltage. This was missed out during internal reviews.

    Behavior of the system can be clearly seen in all pictures. I hope this had helped you in understanding more about this design. Measurement voltages can also be seen in pictures. Design guide will be updated accordingly.
