TIDA-00449: BQ76930

Part Number: TIDA-00449
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ35100, , BQ76930

Hello,

The transistors Q17 and Q18 on the evaluation module TIDA-00449 are connected incorrectly in the schematic and checking the PCB are connected wrong there as well, those transistors switch the voltage for measuring, as they are connected now they will always be conducting by the internal diode in the transistor. It seems that these "reference" designs are not evaluated at all. I have posted other issues regarding the bq35100 which haven't been answered to satisfaction. I wonder what the process is to successfully get good facts in this forum or by TI support.

By the way, I have implemented actual products with the BQ76930 and its gauge companion since 2015, and posted several errors in the datasheets, it is surprising that the reference documents are not audited.

  • Hello Adrian,

You are correct those two transistor are incorrectly connected and should be reversed.

Those transistors are part of of the circuit which is not critical and wasn't tested prior to release, as you can notice the absence of measurement of this part of the circuit in the test result section.
This TIDesign was developed to show an example and performance of the BQ76930 in a high discharge current setup, setup where most of the tests results were performed.
TIDesign are not evaluation module and are done to show solutions to design problems and it can happen that a non critical part of the board is not fully tested or not tested at all.

    I apologies for the inconvenience.

Concerning your issues with regarding the BQ35100, it seems that you got already answers from Onyx. If you feel that your questions haven't been answered to satisfaction, please let him know by replying to his post as he may not be aware that his answers didn't satisfy you.
