Switcherpro online: Firefox on Linux no longer supported?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS54140

I have used Switcherpro with firefox on linux early this year. If I now login,  I only get the "Browser not supported page". I gave feedback on the general TI contact page and on the mail with the remainder to judge switcherpro, but got no response back.

Browser Not Supported:

The browser you are using is not supported in SwitcherPro.
Please use one of the supported browsers listed below.

IE
Firefox

  • Hi Uwe,

The developers recently added code to check browser compatibility prior to starting SwitcherPro. Unfortunately, the compatibility check they added does not support the Linux OS. However, SwitcherPro works well in Firefox. The current compatibility check allows SwitcherPro to start on both MS Windows XP/7 and Apple OSX. I have ask the developers to add Firefox on Linux to the supported browser list. As a workaround, you can install a free Firefox extension called "User Agent Switcher 0.7.2". This Firefox extension changes the "user agent" string returned by the browser, fooling our servers into thinking you is running Internet Explorer. Once the extension is installed, you can click on "Tools"->"Default User Agent"->"Internet Explorer"->"Internet Explorer 8", go to http://www.ti.com/switcherpro, and SwitcherPro should start in Firefox on Linux OS.

  • Hello Micheal,

thanks for your help. When I circumvent this useless browser check, I can now start Switcherpro online via http://focus.ti.com/docs/toolsw/folders/print/switcherpro.html -> Use Online. If I start however via http://focus.ti.com/docs/prod/folders/print/tps54140.html Tools&Software->(Enter design specs) -> "Design now" I get a page "Error, JavaScript Disabled"

Regarding the useless lockout of unknown browsers: Wouldn't a page like "Unsupported browser, use at you own risk, click here to accept this risk" be a much better way?

    Thanks

This is actually a different problem that we are currently trying to fix. The "Error, JavaScript Disabled" message is not Linux specific. All browsers on all platform will fail with this error message. Also, there is no configuration problem in your browser. Javascript is working fine in your browser. This error is caused by a bug in the Javascript code on that page.

Hopefully, this issue will be fixed by the end of the week.

OK. Thank you for the suggestion. I will pass it along to the developers.
