TINA/Spice/LMG1020: Need a spice model for LTspice, encrypted model doesn't work with LTspice

I am looking at using the LMG1020 with a GaN FET to drive a UV laser. I'd like to do the simulation in LTspice nut the available model is encrypted. I do not care about seeing the details of the model but I would like to run it in LTspice. Any path for this?

HI Brain,

Unfortunately, this unencrypted model is not available for distribution and we are unable to support our models in LTSpice. I would recommend using the TINA-TI model instead. TINA-TI is a free simulator provided by TI. If you have not used it before the short video training series below will help to get you started quickly.

I installed TINA-TI and downloaded all new updates. The LMG1020 is not installed so I tried to use the macro wizard to create the part from the downloaded encrypted model lmg1020.lib. The wizard returns with an error the file is empty. I can see the header followed by the encrypted data when I open the file in notepad++.

HI Brain,

You do not need to use the "New Macro Wizard" for this as the model is already available in TINA-TI. Click on the TINA-TI reference design in the following location: www.ti.com/.../toolssoftware, and this should open up the model + testbench in TINA-TI

I was able to load the test bench and run. So my next question is the LMG1020 embedded in this schematic only? In other words, if I want to design a different circuit do I need to use snom619a.tsc as a starting point and edit the schematic? Is there a way to save the LMG1020 component in my TINA setup?

Hi Brian,

There are a few ways to do this.
(1) You can copy and paste the LMG1020 model from snom619a.tsc to another tsc file if you want.
(2). [My preference] I would just create a copy of snom619a.tsc and start modifying it to your circuit. The reason is that the TSC file also has some simulation parameters embedded in it, which might aid convergence and improve sim speed and accuracy y.
(3) If you just want to insert the device model without referencing an another tsc file, you can download the "TINA-TI Spice model" from the same location I sent earlier (TSM file). Then use Insert >> Macro feature to insert this into a new or existing schematic.

Thanks!!! got it! I tried option #3, Insert>>Macro and that works for what I want. Thanks very much for your help. Presently I'm having difficulty importing an EPC2036 FET into TINA but I'll first work with EPC on that. Again, thank-you
