IWR1642: Confuse about mmWave Sensing Estimator

Part Number: IWR1642

When I use mmWave Sensing Estimator to estimate the maximum detecte range on IWR1642, I confuse about mmWave Sensing Estimator

Keep all other settings, change number of RX Antennas.

1 Rx antennas & 1 Tx, maximum range is 75.41m

2 Rx antennas & 1 TX,maximum range is 84.66m

3 Rx antennas & 1TX, maximum range is 99.25m

4 Rx antennas & 1TX, maximum range is 95.05m

It confused me that 3 Rx antennas can get the maximum range

Hi,

I am able to see the behavior you stated on the latest mmWaveSensingEstimator. This could be a bug in the Sensing Estimator. Please allow me a a couple of days to look into this and get back to you. Thanks for bringing this to our notice.

Hi,

You can download the source code for mmWave Sensing Estimator from dev.ti.com/gallery as shown below. Unzip the downloaded zip file and then the included zip file: install_image_mmWaveSensingEstimator.zip

Look under the file: mmWaveSensingEstimator_1.3.0_installer_win\mmWaveSensingEstimator\app\input.js
for the radar equation as shown below:

Hi,

This appears to be a Sensing estimator bug and will be fixed in the next release. For now, please swap the max range values for 3 RX and 4 RX. Thanks again for bringing this to our notice. I will close this ticket.
