PMP10116: Reduce output to 150W and 180W

Part Number: PMP10116
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM2596,

Hi,

I have following doubts with respect to this design.

1. Value of DNP: What should be values of DNP resistors and capacitors? Or else to be shorted or to be kept open?

2. 5V Auxiliary input: Suggest me the circuit to get 5V supply from this design. I think 15V Aux supply is available. Shall I use LM2596 for getting 5V output? Or do you suggest any other circuit?

3. What changes I should do in this design to get output of 150W and 180W?

4. Can I use PWM for dimming instead of 0 to 10V dimming? If yes, What should be Maximum voltage of PWM signal?

5. Is it 'dim to Off' kind of dimming? I mean, In 0 to 10V dimming, at 0V will driver turn off the output supply?

Thanks,

Regards,

Amit

  • Amit, hello. The design owner from our Power Design Services team in Germany is out of the office on holiday, returning January 9th. We'll look into seeing if another engineer may be able to answer after January 2nd, but nonetheless, please expect delays in getting your question here answered until then.

  • Hi,

unfortunatley the PMP10116 will not work for your design because your output specs are very different.

Nevertheless please see my answers below:

    1. DNP means "DO NOT POPULATE"

    2. Adding a load to the BIAS winding of the transformer might be critical because the tranformer winding is designed for a very low rms current and any injected noise on the ZCD pin could be a problem for the controller.

    3. The complete design must be recalculated. A new transformer and all powerstage components must be specified.

    4. The design uses only analog dimming.

    5. 10V = full LED current, 0V = no LED current.

I recommend to use another design as starting point. We have an online database of many reference designs. Just go to:

    http://www.ti.com/power-management/reference-designs.html

An example of another LED design would be:

  • Hi Florian,

I checked PMP4636 and have following questions.

    1. Is it dimmable supply? If yes, using what method (triac/Analog/PWM)?

    2. If answer to 1 is Yes, which pin is dimming input?

    3. If it is PWM, what should be minimum voltage of PWM wave?

    4. Is there any auxiliary supply to get 5VDC for my external controller?

    Thanks and regards,

    Amit
