TINA/Spice/TPS92638-Q1: Simulation under different temperatures

Part Number: TPS92638-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TINA-TI,

Tool/software: TINA-TI or Spice Models

Hello,

When I try to run a PSpice simulation under temperatures like -40, 0, 50 and 80degC, using the TPS92638-Q1 PSpice Transient Model (Rev. A), I'm receiving an overflow message.

"Overflow in device X_U1.D_UCR3_D11

I included T_ABS=27 in the D_D diode inside the PSpice model and the device changed.

"Overflow in device X_U1.X_UDgSC3_U48.d_d10"

I know that "apart from Thermal Shutdown and Thermal foldback, other temperature effects are not modeled", but the behavior of the LEDs and the rest of the circuit is important for me.

Do you have any tip on how can I fix it?

I connected a power supply in the TJN pin, with the recommended values, and already tried a lot of different simulation settings options.

Thank you in advance,

Julio Costa

  • Hi Julio,

Kindly share a snapshot of schematic along with the simulation's analysis parameter. I will try to recreate issue at my end and get back to you.

I changed the voltage at TJN pin to 50V and changed temperature in simulation settings to 50 but didn't observe above issue.

  • Hi Saket,

    Thank you for your answer.

If I use the same settings, it works, but the problem is that I want to run a temperature sweep at 50degC and keep the TNOM at 27degC.

In this way, even using the same schematic as you, I got an error.

Below are the snapshots of the conditions that I want and the error received, using the same schematic as you.

    Thank you and best regards,

    Julio

  • One remark.
As the temperature effects are not modeled for the TPS92638-Q1 and, thus, it will have no influence in my analysis, I would set the T_ABS=27 for all the components, but, as the model is encrypted, I'm not able to do it and I don't know how to include a command in .SUBCKT level to get the same effect.
  • Hi Julio,

You are correct, the temperatures effects are not modeled & it seems that model does not support temperature sweep simulation.

I tried to add T_ABS in diode models but was getting either convergence or some other error. It seems we will need modifications in model to get temperature sweep running properly and model changes can impact normal model behavior.

    Please contact TI Support:

in case you need an unencrypted model for this device.

  • Hi Saket,

I appreciate your effort and feedback.

I sent an email to the Support Team and I'll try to get the unencrypted model and work on it.

    Thanks and regards,
    Julio
