TIDA-00333: Dual Isolated Half-Duplex RS-485 Repeater: Question on Max Data Rate

Part Number: TIDA-00333

Dear TI,

We have successfully implemented your design "TIDA-00333".

With our device repeater works good at lower speeds, up to 19200 kbps. But our application requires speeds up to 115200 kbps. At this speed we are getting mostly garbage. (Just to mention, the device is transferring 250 24-bit readings at second and every reading must be transferred correctly)

Our question is: Can this design be modified for speed of 115200 kbps? If yes, please suggest changes.

Thank you,

Saso

  • Hi Saso,

Could you clarify the speed you are running this design at? 115200 kbps or 115.2 kbps? The design is not expected to work past 100 kbps but let me look into it and see if we can find you a solution.

    Best regards,

    Dan

  • Hi Dan,

Sorry for misunderstanding. The speed that we are working with is 115200bps (115.2kbps).

    Thanks,
    Saso
  • Hi Saso,

No problem! I figured it was just a typo but wanted to make sure.

I believe we have an updated version of that TI design that works under the same principals, but they have updated the BOM for parts with better isolation and lower propagation delay - which allows for faster data rates. You will also note they have adjusted the resistor values.

Please refer to page 4 of this document. I've pasted the section I'm referring to below:

Please let me know if this answers your question.

    Best regards,

    Dan
