Where to get a Daisy Chain GBA IC [SPAA99B]

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24160

Hello,

we would like to try to also process BGAs in our inhouse assambly line. For this i would like to place a daisy chained dummy BGA IC on spare area of a PCB in development.

I have nearly 10x10 mm² space and would like to use a technology with 150µm minimal track width.  I would like to mount a 87ZVW or 143ZWU package as described in SPAA99B. In this pdf there is also mentioned, that ti offers such daisy chained packages.

Best regards

Philipp Sedlmeier

  • Hey Philipp,

I haven't seen these daisy chained Dummy BGA's before, but I was able to locat the app note you reference. www.ti.com/.../spraa99b.pdf

As for TI devices, I was only able to find MSP430FR59xx devices that use the 87ZVW packages but I was unable to find any device that offers the 143ZWU package.  I was searching on our packaging page.

Was there a particular device you were looking at when you selected those packages?

I'm going to check with my MSP430 packaging team to try and find out more information on if these are available and if so, what the process would be to aquire them.

    Thanks,
    JD

  • Hello JD,

thanks for your fast reply. It is more a general request, but we have for example a BQ24160 in one of our projects in use. We are using the VQFN case and would love to get the shrink of a BGA (yes, this would be 0,4 pitch). Our PCB manufacturer can also fabricate plugged vias, but we dont have a good solution for inspection of a BGA device. So first i would like to verify our in house process with a daisy chained dummy.

This means, i just need any sort of BGA dummy, in best case with more pins than the DSBGA49 of the before mentioned device. But whrer can i get such dummies?

    Best regards

    Philipp

  • Hey Philipp,

I've comfirmed with my packaging team and unfortunantly this App notes appears to be incorrect. We do not offer these daisy chained dummy packages.

The team will be reviewing and updating this app note to fix this mistake.

I did a quick google search for daisy chained BGAs and it appears there are some companies out there selling these dummy packages and test kits.

    Regards,
    JD
