TIDA-01487: Bus arbitration logic on a PLD

Part Number: TIDA-01487
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ISO7721, , TINA-TI

I want to use the Bus Arbitration Logic together with the ISO7721 and TCAN1042 of TI Design TIDA-01487. We are going to have 5 of them in one board. To save space and possibly cost, we want to use a PLD for the Bus Arbitration Logic. I think it's possible to use a PLD for the Bus Arbitration Logic but what do you think? If it's possible, what TI PLD would you recommend? The design has time delay circuitry. Do you think that's going to be an issue when using PLD? Could the bus arbitration logic be modified so it would work at higher CAN-FD rates?

  • Hi, I think too that you can implement the arbitration logic with a PLD especially if you have a lot of the on one board to safe space. AFAIK TI has no PLD device in its portfolio, hence I cannot recommend and :-)
For faster CAN-FD rates you would need to simulate them. Simulation can be done with the simulation files that we provide on the TI design page and TINA-TI. You can find this also on the TIDA-01487 reference design page.
