WEBENCH® Tools: Capacitor Characteristics

Tool/software: WEBENCH® Design Tools

Hi

My Customer has question.

Customers are thinking of using WEBENCH to determine peripheral constants.
So the question is, does the capacitor presented in WEBENCH offer a value
that takes into account the change in capacitance such as DC bias characteristics?
I am considering changing the size of the capacitor,
but I am considering whether WEBENCH can be used for the change.
Can you cooperate?

Best Regard

T Kishi

  • Hi Kishi-san,

Yes ,we do consider DC bias characteristics while selecting capacitors. You can see the total derated cap value after clicking on the alternate part for capacitor as shown in below image.

    Thanks and Regards,

    Atul

  • Please note that the total derated capacitance column value shown for every cap is a function of availability of manufacturer data in our database. So, if we have the data we display the precise value else we do a linear estimation for the derated capacitance.

  • Hi Atul、Amod

    Thank you for reply.

In the case of parts not registered in WEBENCH, do you mean you need to check the characteristics yourself?
Although the model number is unknown, the customer will use a capacitor of [0603 (mm)].

  • Yes, when the part is not in the WEBENCH tool, please visit the manufacturer website to check the characteristics. You can check for lot of other properties apart from just part number like dielectric type, package size, etc. to get an idea of what the derating might look like in your particular situation. In the end, it is best to ensure the actual design works with the chosen cap on an evaluation board.
