  • TIDA-01081 is a TI Reference Design that demonstrates a unique approach to drive and control a string of multiple high-power LEDs targeted for industrial machine vision systems. The design allows users to program LED current and timing to enable safe overdrive of LEDs for increased brightness. It makes LED currents up to 2.4 A and on times as low as 200 ns possible enabling very fast photo acquisition in machine vision.

    The ISOW7842 is a high-performance, quad-channel reinforced digital isolator with an integrated high-efficiency power converter. The integrated DC-DC converter provides up to 650 mW of isolated power at high efficiency and can be configured for various input and output voltage configurations. Therefore these devices eliminate the need for a separate isolated power supply in space-constrained isolated designs.

    High efficiency digital isolation is enabled by TI’s capacitive isolation technology utilizing thick silicon dioxide (SiO2) insulation barriers, whereas, power isolation uses on-chip transformers separated by thin film polymer as insulating material.

    TIDA-01081 benefits of the integration of data as well as highly efficient DC-DC isolation into one single chip using. Thus isolation of UART and Trigger in/out is achieved by using a single ISOW7842 and a couple of passive components only. This minimizes size, component count and board complexity. TI’s capacitive isolation technology enables high efficiency of digital isolation making power available for the rest of the system.
