TIDA-00915: LMG3411

Part Number: TIDA-00915
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV421, INA253EVM, , TIDA-00366, TIDA-00171, AMC1311, TIDA-00914, AMC1301, INA253

Dear Martin

We found two EVMs that we think can help us testing these daughter boards (LMG3411-18) in closed loop mode. These are;

·       DRV421 EVM which allows us measuring the current of the Daughter board and hence create a closed current loop. If true we would need 3 of these modules to measure the current of the three phases....correct?

·       INA253EVM.

Please let us know if you think if these are appropriate choices.

Regards

Sam

  • Dear Sam,

    thank you for your interest in TIDA-00915 and current/voltage sensing. The TIDA-00915 GaN inverter is rated for 200-400V DC-link voltage and the LMG3411 are isolated from the C2000 controlCARD. An inline shunt requires an isolated amplifier which can handle the high common mode and common mode transients.

    For current and DC-link voltage measurements, I'd suggest you look for an isolated amplifier like AMC1301 (phase current) or AMC1311 (DC-link voltage) or an isolated delta-sigma modulator like AMC1306. For more details on current and voltage sensing with a 3-phase inverter with AMC1301/11 please refer to the TI design TIDA-00366, for more details with an isolated delta sigma modulator refer to TIDA-00914 or TIDA-00171.

    Both AMC1301 (see: http://www.ti.com/tool/amc1301evm) and AMC1306 (see: www.ti.com/.../amc1306evm) have EVMs you can order from TI.

  • Dear Martin,
    As usual clear and helpful responses . Thank you.

    I apologize for involving TIDA-00915. We have LMG3411-18 daughter boards and we want to use them in closed current loop mode. We found 2 EVMs that we think can help us. These are;
    • DRV421 EVM, which allows us to measure the current of the Daughter board and hence create a closed current loop current. If that EVM can do the job we would then need 3 of these modules....correct?
    • INA253EVM.

    Please let us know if you think if these are appropriate choices, and whether we need to complement them with other EVMs.

    Regards
    Sam
  • Dear Martin
    As you know Fluxgate allows more accurate sensing as compared to shunt resistance and we obviously want to explore that.

  • Hi Sam,

    Thank you for the interest in current sensing. Can you please provide more information about your application - voltage range, current? Please note that INA253 has a maximum common mode capability of 80V and the intended application should not exceed that value. In case you plan to use DRV421 EVM, you will need 3 of the modules for a 3-phase inverter. Alternatively, you can use 2 modules only if the load currents are always balanced in your application.

    As Martin, suggested, please explore AMC13xx based EVMs also for your application.

    Regards
    Siva
