TIDA-00913: number of current sensors

Part Number: TIDA-00913
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: INA240

Hello,

What is the benefit of having three INA240 inline sensors instead of having two ?

Regards,

Mohammad.

  • Dear Mohammed,

please find below some example benefits for a 3-phase current sense system:

    - Short-circuit detection: If there's a short from the any of the three motor terminals to GND (DC-) it can be detected for any of the three phases.
    - Leakage detection: In normal operation ia+ib+ic=0. If the sum of not zero over a certain time, it may indicate a fault in the system.
    - Accuracy: If three sensors are available, we can choose the two sensors where the PWM has a higher duty cycle for better measurement accuracy and skip the sensor which has a small PWM duty cycle.
