Dear expert

I have designed smps of 15V/1A with reference design of PMP10833

I have attached schematic and pcb layout(Placement of components) for review purpose.

Pls review below layout(Placement of components) and give any changes or suggestion for better performance of smps.

I am again attaching the files for your review. Sorry for your inconvenience. Please find the attachments.

Also, we are using this SMPS for metering purpose and so have swapped Line and Neutral connections. Please give your feedback on this.

Hi Kamesh,

There is no trace shown in the layout plot, but the part placement looks good to me. Just make sure you are minimizing the power loop - C1 - Q1 - D3 - L1 - C6 - C2. I have attached the simulation files I used for the PMP10833 design. Hope the files help you through the evaluation process.

Hi Sheng-Yang Yu,

We want to use this power supply for metering applications.
For this we will be taking Line(Phase) of AC as a reference ground. It seems to be not possible here as bridge rectifier is used. So please let us know how could we use this power supply for metering applications ? or can we use a simple diode + cap for AC-DC conversion instead of the bridge rectifier ?

Hi Kamesh,

When you use either Line or Neutral as a reference ground, it doesn't matter you are using a bridge diode or a single diode. The diode rectifier will act as a half-wave rectifier. A half-wave rectifier will need to double its input capacitor to maintain the same minimum rectified input voltage when compares to full-wave rectifier (with bridge diode and output ground not tie to Line or Neutral).

So, yes and it is pretty common for metering applications to use simple diode rectification. You just need to make sure you have enough input capacitance to maintain high enough rectified voltage for your following buck converter.

So we will simply replace the Bridge rectifier with half wave rectifier or Diode 1N4007 with circuit attached. Is it OK?

Hi Kamesh,

Yes, it is okay. Don't forget to check the voltage valley of your C5 and C6 capacitors and make sure the following buck converter can work properly at that valley voltage.
