0R resistor in a series with an antenna trace

Why do we use an 0R resistor in a series with an antenna trace while designing on chip antenna?

  • Hi Hemant,

It depends what contest you're referring to, but typically there are two cases that come to mind. It can be to select one path or another in the case that there are 2 RF paths (one to an antenna and one to a U.FL connector for example). The other case is to provision for antenna matching on your design.

    Thanks,

  • Hi Alexis,

thanks for the prompt reply. Basically, I have designed a GSM Antenna on PCB Board. And I am using only a single antenna for now. If I remove the zero-ohm resistor in the trace and connect directly to the antenna, will it change the performance of the antenna? As per my understanding, zero ohms is just acting as a jumper if I remove it there will be no effect on the performance. Please correct me if I am wrong.

    Thanks

    Hemant

  • Hi Hemant,

If you're not changing anything about the transmission line, then you are correct.

    Thanks,

    Alexis
