Hi

Power over RS485. Can I get the values of inductor which are been used for this application?

My data rate is 115200.  will an exact schematic will work over RS485 on dc bus.

My application will be in an ideal condition much of the time, So dc saturation will be required so shall I go with trilevel with same inductance value.

  • Hi Divyanshu,

Unfortunately it looks like the exact inductance value was not documented beyond the statement that it needed to be at least in the "tens of mH" range.  In general you want to make sure that the inductance is high enough that the connection to the power supply looks like a high impedance across the frequency range of the data transmitted (so that data corruption does not occur due to the increased loading).

  • Hi

I was thinking to put 33mh inductor for the same. Or should I put the combination of the inductor as in Tida-00527?

Does Rs485 IC make a difference while transferring data signaling? Because for TIDA i have used sn65hvd 1780.

  • Divyanshu,

The required inductance value will mostly depend on the signaling rate, although the transceiver's rise/fall times could have some effect as well.  The most practical solutions may be to plan to experiment with different inductance values.  At a minimum though you should make sure that its combination with the bus capacitors results in a high-pass corner frequency that is below the minimum frequency expected in your data.

  • HI

Can u help in getting the exact value for inductance and capacitance?

have a signaling rate of 115200. On which this system could work..?

  • Divyanshu,

Sorry, I've been unable to track down the exact values of the components that were used in this application report (it was written some time ago and not much documentation is available beyond the application note itself).  I do think your idea of trying 33 mH makes sense.  Generally it seems you will need a fairly large value due to the relatively slow signaling rate you are trying to use.

  • Hi

33mh even look good for me. But I am facing problem in getting the values of an inductor with specific current and mohm value.

Better if u can provide us the part number which we can use for the same.

  • Divyanshu,

I agree that would be ideal, but I've checked to see if these part number were noted anywhere outside of the published document but I haven't been able to locate any information.  Since this work was performed several years ago, I think this part number is unfortunately lost to time.
