WEBENCH® Tools/UCC21750: Does it need a buffer for signals of RDY, nFLT to DSP/MCU?

Part Number: UCC21750
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320F28379D,

Tool/software: WEBENCH® Design Tools

Hi,

1. I was suggested that a buffer like SN74LVC541APWR is better to use between DSP (TMS320F28379D) and UCC21750 to protect DSP.

UCC21750 datasheet P30: A fault will be reported to the input side to DSP/MCU, which means the signals can be directly go to DSP?

2. Also a buffer like SN74LVC541APWR was suggested to better use between ADC signals and ADC pins of TMS320F28379D. I've never used before.

Does these MCUs like TMS320F28379D need a buffer for it? When do I need to consider this to protect the MCUs?

Thanks,

Hongmei

  • Hi Hongmei,

    1. Yes, the signals RDY and nFLT can be tied directly to the MCU/DSP.

    2. Perhaps there are some additional system-level factors which may require the use of a buffer. For example, a buffer may help to protect the MCU/DSP when the signal has to travel over a long distance of wire to reach the input pin.

    Regards.
