TIDA-01606: How to modify from 3-phase to single-phase system?

Part Number: TIDA-01606

Hi Champs,

My one customer wants to refer TIDA-01606 for single-phase grid tie inverter.  Here are some questions about it.

Q1) The user’s guide of this reference design has a guidance of LCL filter design. I think all the equations in LCL filter can be used for single-phase inverter with just changing the coefficient sqrt(3) to sqrt(2). Is it correct? If not, woud you give me some advice?

Q2) If this topology can be used for battery charging with bidirectional mode, In-rush current will come from grid to high voltage capacitor through body diode of SiC when relay on the grid side turns on. In this scenario, do you need an in-rush current protection circuit?

Thanks,

Steve

  • Hi Steve,

q1) I think if you replace the sqrt(3) with 1, it should be ok as it will represent the per phase RMS voltage.

q2) Please add an extra relay in series with the existing phase relay. Add a 10/20 ohm resistor in parallel with this relay. This relay can be used for controlling the inrush current by using the parallel resistor.

    Best Regards,
