Hi,

I am looking for low power bidirectional DC-DC converter designs along with a controller with MATLAB/Simulink coding interface and can handle optimal control or optimization or advanced control algorithms. Intended for multiple input energy source (batteries and supercapacitors) applications with 12V to 24V(DC link) conversion.

I have found a TI application report similar to my applications using C2000 (attached). Can I use C2000 for advanced optimization-based control algorithms?

Kindly suggest appropriate controller, DC-DC converter designs,.. etc if available. Any further suggestions are highly appreciated.

You can use this design for your application. For a fully analog solution, please take a look at LM5170.

Hi,

I have gone through LM5170-Q1 and LM5170 EVM.

In the EVM diagram (shown below), I can only see one 12V port. Is it possible to add one more 12V as it has a dual-channel power stage to use two different power sources?

Hi Praveen,

This board has two buck/boost stages working in parallel (interleaved). You can separate them at the 12V side to have two channels if power levels are low. However, the power flow cannot be independently controlled. That is, it will support the 48V source supporting the two 12V channels together, and the two 12V channels together boosting into the 48V channel.

Hi Salil,

I have one more question. Before buying the EVM module, I would like to get an insight for final confirmation if it is suitable, even though I have explained it once.

My objectives in the below model:

Maintain the 12V DC link voltage
Control the current sharing using different algorithms from Simulink/Matlab between battery and supercapacitor. The battery provides average current while supercapacitor provides sudden transients when varying the motor load.
I will be using C2000 MCU to controll both LM5170-Q1EVM modules externally.

Whether these objectives can be achieved using two LM5170-Q1 EVM modules controlled by C2000 MCUs?
