WEBENCH® Tools/TAS5768M: bass treble setting method

Part Number: TAS5768M
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS5766M

Tool/software: WEBENCH® Design Tools

Hi,

I want to set bass and treble on TAS5768M by using PPC3,

what is the right method to do that?

for now I am using this method:

for bass setting I use low pas filter, if I want to increase bass I am shifting the cut off frequency

set

bass level1 :low pass at 1800Hz cut off

bass level2 :low pass at 1600Hz cut off

bass leve3 :low pass at 1400Hz cut off

bass level4 :low pass at 1200Hz cut off

.... and so on

set

treble level1 :high pass at 300Hz cut off

treble level2 :high pass at 500Hz cut off

treble level3 :high pass at 700Hz cut off

treble level4 :high pass at 900Hz cut off

... and so on

individually.

is this the right method for setting bass and treble?   If yes how will I set minus bass and minus treble?

OR is there another method for setting bass and treble like that:

define a frequency for bass, for ex: 500 Hz

and adjust the gain level above 500Hz;

nominal gain 12dB,

set

bass level 1: 10 dB above 500Hz,

bass level 2: 8 dB above 500Hz,

bass level 3: 6 dB above 500Hz,

bass level 4: 4 dB above 500Hz,

.. and so on

define cut off frequency 700 Hz for treble

set

treble level 1: 10 dB below 700Hz,

treble level 2: 8 dB below 700Hz,

treble level 3: 6 dB below 700Hz,

treble level 4: 4 dB below 700Hz,

... and so on

individually.

OR is the another method that I dont know?

I am confused to decide and use the best way for bass and treble setting

any help about this?

  • I assume you are using Smart Amp.

We have already prepared a good guide for Smart Amp tuning, which is PurePath Smart Amp User Manual (TAS5766M_68M).

Follow the screenshot below to download the tuning guide.

  • I have already read the document you suggested but; it doesnt give any idea about my guestion.

That is right there is an option in pure path console ; smart amp->Bass eq.

1- there is two adjustment there frequency and gain, I don't know either bass adjustment will be by cut off frequency shift or gain setting below or aboveof  a certain cut off freq as I indicated in my question.

2-I can not give the right filter shape in smart amp->smart bass eq, instead I use biquads on smart equalizer,

3-what about treble, there is not any knowledge about this in doc you suggested.

I want to remind my question again here. I dont know the best method for bass treble setting. If I know I can apply on PPC3 easily. My question is not how to use PPC3 for bass treble,

My question is what is the best method for bass and treble, İf I know that I will give the filters by biquads on PPC3.

    thanks

  • My suggestions are:

    a) Do the bass enhancement in the smart bass tuning window. Follow the very detailed steps we put down in the tuning guide. Smart Bass is much more powerful than the biquads in the equalizer tuning window.

    b) Tuning is a pretty subjective thing. Different customers have different preferences. We don't see there is any shortcut for the EQ tuning. Basically, you would need to have a good understanding of the speakers you are tuning with since sometimes some speakers cannot reproduce a certain range of frequencies well. Also, you would need to play a few different audio files and listen. Enable one or more biquads and check if you like the sound. Make an improvement gradually to meet your preferences.
