WEBENCH® Tools: Useless Filter sliders

Tool/software: WEBENCH® Design Tools

Hi,

WEBENCH Power Designer is a great tool to compare different DCDC solutions to given problems, here are some issues though:

1. The efficiency slider goes in large steps from 0-99%, which can only be set to 89% efficiency minimum. This filtered out no design :D Let us type in the boundaries we want.

These are other things that annoy me sometimes, sorted by importance:

2. Design attribute, add IC Cost to filter. It helps when we know what external components we want to use but are looking for the best value IC to power our device (just figured out you can add column in LIST view)

3. Allow us to export CAD even if schematic is broken. I couldnt download a project to EAGLE because one of the MOSFET pins wasnt mapped correctly even though i didnt even want to use that MOSFET. Also, allow us to change power blocks in designs. Often, these cannot be changed.

4. Add multiple output voltages as system requirement.

Thanks!!

  • Hi Karim,

Thank you and appreciate your detailed feedback. We will forward these requirements to the concerned team – so they can include these suggestions in the development roadmap.

Please find my answers/comments to your specific queries.

    1.      The minimum, maximum and step size of efficiency slider is set based on the efficiency values of all the solutions in the list. Directly typing in the limits for the slider is a good idea.

    2.      IC cost is part of both CARD and TABLE view. We will consider having IC cost as one of the slider filters.

    3.      Please share WEBENCH design which has the EAGLE export issue using 'Share Option' as shown below – this will help us further debug and fix this issue.

    4.      The new WEBENCH power designer doesn't support multiple output devices. Support for multi-output devices is in our roadmap.

    Thanks & Regards,

    Praveen

  • Hi Karim,

Could you please share the Webench design for which you had the EAGLE export issue? Please use share design option in Webench (Copy and past public link).

    Best Regards,
