Hello,

I am developing this system for audio power system supply using the PMP40379.

I am testing only for 115VAC.

QUESTION

1. Is S600 short for 115VAC connect from COMPONENT GBU8J-BP pin 2 & L601 pin 3 To =>> C605 negative rail?

~115VAC SHORT: Is this the optimal connection for 115VAC without the Switch? This is for USA market!

2. For the DNP R613 , if I don't populate this resistor i.e. R613, I would still have to make the connection for SS from PIN 9: LL/SS to PIN 12: RVCC correct?

Also can I use a 0R instead of

Hi Neil,

1. Yes, you can short the switch directly for 115VAC input.

2. You can just delete the connections If you don't need the R613, but I would recommand to keep this placeholder for burst mode adjustment.

Oliver,

According to reference design document PMP40379, it says R613 DNP, do not populate. If so how is SS being handled!

We need to activate the SS/soft start feature for our design.

So if R613 DNP, do not populate for this design on PIN 9 LL/SS.

How is the design handling soft-start?

Note this 500W power is for a power amplifier product.

Can I eliminate this component, with no drawbacks that impact the design?

Hi Neil,

The soft-start capacitor C623 sets the speed of the soft-start ramp basically, please see more details in this application note

J603 is a jumper wire which keep a place for current probe to monitor the resonant current, you can just short it directly.

Thank you for the support.

On the output capacitors, C632, C633, C634, C636, C637 and C638.

What is the capacitance range that can be used besides 2000uF.

Note I have a physical constraint board size issue.

So what value can I use instead of the six components i.e. 2000uF? These caps are large and take up lots of space!

Also for C605 - C610, can you all recommend another options instead. Thank you.

Hi Neil,

The input capacitors C605-C610 are selected based on the input range and output power, you can use smaller capacitance if you input range is narrow.

For the output capacitors, which depends on the load transition requirement basically, you may further reduce the capacitance if needed.

Hi Oliver,

We are thinking of upgrading the IC from UCC256302 AND considering the UCC256402 AS THE ALTERNATIVE PART.

Our client need this supply for audio power amplifier thus ultra-low audible noise is a requirement besides wide-ac-input one of many need per client request.

Per the PMP40379 REFERENCE DESIGN, it looks like a good fit with no change except DNP S600.

Am I needing to make any other modifications to the PMP40379 REFERENCE DESIGN?
