TIDA-01606: 10KW and 125V DC Input

Part Number: TIDA-01606

How  easy would it be to modify it to operate at 125V DC input and 10KW ?  What changes would be required ?

  • For this design to operate at 125VDC at 10kW power will require a complete redesign of this board. Currently this design can handle a max of 18A, for this to be designed tor 125VDC operation, we are looking at redesigning this board to handle (Power/Voltage = Current i.e. 10,000/125 = 80A  plus 20% margin) ~100A of current. That will require a complete redesign of switches (SiC & IGBT) and magnetic components along with board layout redesign to  handle this current.

TIDA-01606 is a three level T-type inverter topology targeted towards being able to address 1000VDC or higher using lower V rated switches (SiC & IGBTs) in multiple levels. This topology is not well suited for a 125VDC design. Hope this helps.

  • Hi Jayanth

    Thank you .I  understand.

Is there another TI reference design that would be better suited that you could recommend ?

  • Hi

    I guess I can I can run it at 125V if I limit the power to to 2.25KW  (125*18A = 2.25KW )

I could then evaluate it at this power level and then decide what changes would be required  are be required to run at 10KW

    Will this be ok ?

  • Assuming this is 125V variable voltage input coming from a Solar string array, I would suggest looking at TIDM-SOLAR-DCDC in tandem with TIDM-SOLAR-ONEPHINV to address this power conversion.

TIDA-01606 is not the best topology/ design to address 125V from a solar string array.
