Hi team,

May I know, what is the need of input inductor , L1 in PMP8944 reference design.

The L1 reduces the ripple current drawn from the DC source. Depending on the application there may be limits on the ripple current and harmonics that can be drawn from the DC source in the system. The L1 presents an AC impedance to limit the switching frequency current and associated harmonics drawn from the DC source.

In practice additional filtering may be required to meet relevant industrial requirements for conducted emissions on the input lines.

There are a couple of articles in the TI power supply design seminar that may be useful.

Alternatively I suggest doing a Google search for EMI filter design.
