WEBENCH® Tools: WEBENCH Transformer Setup and Purchasing

Tool/software: WEBENCH® Design Tools

Hello everybody,

I used the WEBENCH design tool to search for a suitable Flyback layout. After selecting one of the results the bill of materials showed a transformer setup from TDK like this:

Where can I find this transformer or how can I order this setup? Furthermore I would like to know how the price of 0.18 $ is calculated?

When I look up transformers for a flyback design at mouser or digikey, the listed components are much more expensive.

Thanks and BR

  • Hi Markus,

The transformer price on WEBENCH is incorrect. We will fix this issue. Meanwhile please refer to the price given by the manufacturer.

    Thanks & Regards,

  • Hi Markus,

The transformer price in WEBENCH includes (core+bobbin) pricing, for the 1 k units, by default. This does not include the winding cost which i agree can be a major portion. I will add some percentage to include the winding cost also to the total transformer cost - this is a good feedback.

Now coming to the above example, the software picks the pricing of core or bobbin from different distributors like Digi-Key, Mouser, etc. I just checked in your case - the bobbin pricing is being picked (NULL) hence the total transformer cost is only showing the cost of core/1ku - 0.18$. And the reason is - because for this particular bobbin B66206B1110T001, the software is not able to pick the price from Digi-Key. I have added it in our tables, this update should go out in next WEBENCH release to ti.com/

Meanwhile, for the pricing part, you can refer to Digikey, etc.

Regarding ordering this transformer - This is a custom transformer which has to be assembled in-house or the details can be sent to the transformer vendor who can then construct it from the details in the transformer pdf report( contains information about layers/strands/AWG, etc)

You can find the pdf by clicking on the highlighted section( in red) on the WEBENCH transformer window

let me know if any issue here,

    Thanks
