Tool/software: WEBENCH® Design Tools

Basic FW:

TPS65983_FW_6.67.dmg

Config Tool:

TPS65983 Thunderbolt Application Customization 4_14

We found that we can’t access to call the Flash function which inside TPS65983B’s basic FW to update its profile.

It fails when we send the Flash command by I2C and return "Cmd STATUS ERROR: !CMD” from TPS65983B.

It can access to flash when we used TPS65982 basic FW and config tool.

It seems this function was locked by TPS65983B basic FW, we are tried to unlock this host interface ,but fail .We even can’t find out the key.

Hi Max,

This TPS65983B does not support 4CC I2C based Flash update. Because the '83B is intended for use in Intel TBT reference designs, the intention is the TBT Host controller will maintain its own FW that is also merged with PD FW.

Hi Scott:

We need I2C to update TPS65983B basic FW, if possible there any setting can be change in config tool or you can build a FW for us which has 4CC I2C Flash update ?

Hi Max,

What reference design are you working on with TPS65983B?

If you are not required to use an Intel TBT reference design, I'd recommend considering a different PD Controller such as TPS65987D. This part does support I2C based FW update.
