Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM5181
I have gotten through this issue with help of TI customer support, some troubleshooting, and a Cadence rep. TI customer support requested that I make this informational report, in case others see a similar issue and so TI AEs can see/track this as well.
HISTORY
I downloaded PSPICE for TI specifically to simulate the LM5181 flyback IC. I downloaded the TI reference project for PSPICE. I ran into some initial errors (mostly due to lack of Cadence knowledge on my part), but when TI customer service got me through these, I opened up PSPICE for TI again and was greeted with a stall-out with each and every mouse click. This appeared as "Not Responding" in the task manager and at the upper menu ribbon for ~1minute, each time I clicked the mouse. This included simple things like clicking to expand a menu (also the menu never expanded).
INITIAL TROUBLESHOOTING
I checked my system vs requirements and was probably at the minimum level, but my system met all requirements.
I "end tasked" a few times and re-opened to check for repeatability. I encountered the same result. (PSPICE was so locked up that clicking the 'X' to close also resulted in a ~1min "Not Responding" with no result at the end)
I rebooted to check for a Windows issue. I ended up with the same result.
FINAL SOLUTION
The final thing that I tried, after noticing that PSPICE seemed OK for a short time (30s - 1min) while it was opening, was to re-download the LM5181 project.
What I found was that re-downloading the project and stopping TI from automatically opening the old one (as it automatically did every time it opened), cleared the issue up.
It appears that the LM5181 project that I was originally working with, got corrupted somehow. This was causing the issue, but the behavior of PSPICE (opening the last project automatically at start-up) was causing the issue to keep re-appearing.
