WEBENCH® Tools: Needed Webench design

Tool/software: WEBENCH® Design Tools

Hello,

Can you suggest me IC part number and if possibly a Webench design for the following parameters

VIn minimum: 3.3V

Vin maximum: 3.67V

Iout maximum: 15mA

Vout: 5V

Max ambient temperature: 85C

Efficiency required: above 90% at max load.

Only ceramic caps(X7R,C0G/NP0 only....if both not possible than X5R)

shielded inductors only

Max component height should be less than 2.1mm.

BOM count should be minimum.

  • Hi Sahol,

Thanks for contacting us. Please look into the below E2E post for the answer on how to search/filter/customize designs on Webench.

  • Thank you for your reply.

Based on my previous experience after designing from Webench i was not able to achieve the efficiency shown by Webench as the models used in Webench were not updated.

Hence asking for the above parameters which design would be having corrected models so that the efficiency required would be achievable.

  • I have attached Webench design as per my requirements. Can you confirm by looking into the models selected whether they are updated are not?

This will let me know that after building the circuit i would get the same efficiency as shown in Webench report.5V 15mA 85C TPS610997.pdf

  • Hi Sahol,

Sorry for your past experience with Webench.

Webench models are modelled based on actual measured data with an acceptable accuracy of +/-3% to 5%.

Webench efficiency is modelled considering the losses at various components.
while calculating the efficiency  there are few assumptions, example we don't model core losses in inductor. We try to match Webench efficiency with actual bench efficiency with a difference of +/-3% to 5%.

Hence there is a possibility of having difference between Webench efficiency and actual board efficiency.

From the condition mentioned above we see the requirement for higher efficiency at light load, at light load its difficult to predict and model the efficiency very accurately due to the assumptions mentioned above.

Hence we might see bigger difference at light load between bench and  Webench efficiency.

we see only way to accurately predict efficiency is using the EVM board.

Here we will not be able to help you with product suggestion for your input condition with required efficiency, we need recommendation of product expert on

this. I have moved your post to the product expert for the help.

    Thanks and Regards,

    Umayal

  • Hi Sahol:

I'll recommend to use L=2.2uh for 5V Vout. And you can use several 0402/0603 MLCC to replace the 1206 package caps..
