TIDA-00817: LTC6820 to replace MCU solution discussion

Part Number: TIDA-00817

Hi team,

It is nice to know you here. When I recommend TIDA-00817 to my customer, they have an idea that wants to save MCU. They want to use LTC6820 to translate the information from the AFE device, such as LTC6813, which will save MCU for them. Do you think is it possible for them to do that? If not, what is the reason? Thank you for your support here. Thanks.

BR,

Charles Lin

  • Hi Charles,

The device you mentioned still requires MCU to host the data communications and a TI device comparable to that solution would be the bq79600 which interfaces daisy chain communications with our bq79616. I would no longer recommend the TIDA you referenced as it is an older reference design with expensive active cell balancing as opposed to bq79616 with integrated passive cell balancing.

    Regards,
