TIDA-00779: how to get PCB or complete EVAL kit

Part Number: TIDA-00779

Hi,

the described TIDA-0079 PFC design approach fit's to our requirements.

We would like to test it together with our own circuit.

Question: For fast evaluation, is it possible to get the complete TIDA-0079 kit or at least the PCB?

Thanks in advance for information.

Peter

  • Hi Peter,

You need to build the board by yourself, you can download the design file through:

    https://www.ti.com/tool/TIDA-00779?keyMatch=TIDA-00779&tisearch=Search-EN-everything&usecase=GPN

  • Hi Felix,

thank you very much for the quick answer.

I was trying to read in the provided Gerber files into our system ( Target-PCB ).

There is a problem with polygons, e.g. the polygon at the upper right boarder.

The drill file with oval holes made also problems. ( Target-PCB is able to handle oval holes )

Is it possible to get the data in Eagle, Target-PCB or any other format?

Our 24h PCB service did also reject the Gerber and Drill files.

Next is .... same problem as many other people, the inductors.

Our people from buying department are unable to find the required parts.

Could you pleas give some advice / hints, where to buy ( mouser, digikey, etc )?

We are unable to find a distributor for the described inductors out of the BOM.

Thanks in advance and have a good day

  • Hi Peter,

If you are really hard to open the Gerber file, would you please send the PCB file to PCB maker?

About the inductor, the basic spec is 180uH@31Apk (the 790uH as BOM is zero current condition), you can try to find similar part according this spec.

Hope this is helpful for you.

  • Hi Felix,

thank you very much for the hint.

Regarding the PCB, the PCB maker is unhappy about oval holes ( for the big capacitors and inductors ).

I'm trying to read your Gerber into Target-PCB and convert to big round holes.

I expect for the inductors a specific material is required, because the frequency is pretty high.

Do you have any hint where to buy the inductors? Was searching at TDK, no success.

    180µH@31Apk is a good hint.

Anything else I have to think of? Because I have to create a new PCB, then it makes sense to reduce the number "of known bugs" ;-)

Better to make it in 2oz copper?

Thanks again and have a good day

  • Hi Felix,

    I found Mouser-Nr.: 673-PA5141.205NLT

190uH 30A SMT Common Mode Choke

do you think that one works?

Thanks and have a good day

    Peter

  • Hi Peter,

The inductor you found is common mode choke, we cannot use a common mode choke as PFC choke.

For PFC choke, high probability needs to be customized, it is hard to buy it directly from market, because it is not standard parts.

So I recommend you to contact with a local inductor manufacture, what you need to do is to provide the basic spec to the maker.
